Launch Of New UK Brigade Network

An innovative internet business directory for firefighters has just been launched for the whole of the UK fire service.
brigadenetwork.co.uk has been developed by firefighters, for firefighters, to enable colleagues to contact each other when looking for a skilled tradesman or service provider.
brigadenetwork.co.uk has been developed by firefighters, for firefighters, to enable colleagues to contact each other when looking for a skilled tradesman or service provider.
The website is the brainchild of retained firefighter Colin Bennett, a brigade photographer and website provider, who came up with the idea after seeing a retained firefighter's work van after he stopped at a crash scene.
'I needed a rat catcher to eliminate a problem in an old house and didn't know anyone to contact. It was just by chance that I met up with a retained firefighter who had stopped to help at a road accident. His pest control van immediately caught my eye as I never knew that was his job,' said Colin.
'I then wondered just how many other people in the fire service, like me, had wanted a service or a tradesman, reached for their local printed directory to find a stranger while not knowing that a fellow brigade colleague is just a call away, qualified and able to do a better job and do it cheaper.'
Realising that a brigade network website was the answer, Colin set about to provide one for everyone in the fire service including operational, administration and support staff, past and present, and their families.
'UK firefighters are renowned for their camaraderie and being part of the fire brigade family and this helps everyone to forge links with colleagues even further.'
The network lists the professions and trades of UK firefighters, many who have a dual role running their own business's working as electricians, plumbers, carpenters, computer professionals and a host of other jobs.
The website is a 'valuable tool' for firefighters looking for someone to carry out a job of work and for colleagues who can now advertise their profession on the internet site.
Retained Station Officer John Taylor who runs a painting and decorating business praised the brigade website network saying it would be very useful to brigade staff across the country.
'It's an excellent idea. It will be ideal, especially for firefighters who are starting up a new business to get their details known within their own area. I?m already registered and would urge everyone to do the same.'
