Med Certification For Zhejiang Orientx Is A First For BSI In China
The certification, which covers fire extinguishers manufactured and supplied by Zhejiang Orientx, will allow these products to be used on board ships, including those operating under the flags of the EU member states. It will, therefore, facilitate a large and potentially lucrative new market for the company.
Zhejiang Orientx chose BSI Product Services as the Notified Body it would use for MED Conformity Assessment partly because the company already held Kitemark approval for its fire extinguishers, in line with EN3. Since the requirements of the MED also relate to EN3, it was possible for BSI Product Services, the operator of the Kitemark scheme, to accept the existing test reports as part of the MED approval process.
BSI Products Services was also able to provide expert advice and support in meeting the other requirements of the Directive. Upon satisfactory completion of the appropriate technical files and after an inspection of its manufacturing facilities by BSI Product Services, Zhejiang Orientx was awarded Module B and Module D approval for five fire extinguishers employing various types of extinguishing agent.

Having successfully obtained MED certification, Zhejiang Orientx can now use the Ship's Wheelmark logo on its approved products. This widely recognised logo confirms that the products meet mandatory requirements under the Marine Equipment Directive, and is crucial to the acceptance of those products for shipboard applications in almost every country of the world.
