Hilton's Five Star Approach To Fire
The landmark agreement, exclusively for Hilton's hotels in London, is the result of an ongoing dialogue with regards to safety procedures and aims to promote additional fire safety, reduce the number of false alarms the Brigade attend and strengthen the working relationship between both parties.
Having identified a high level of false alarms, Hilton and the London Fire Brigade began discussions which have led to a reduction of two thirds since 2005 across 16 hotels in the capital. The agreement now makes the relationship official and is the first of its kind.
Deputy Chairman of London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority, Councillor Bertha Joseph, said; "This agreement shows how committed the Brigade is to working with businesses and explaining the dangers of fire. Reducing the number of false alarms the Brigade attends frees up firefighters time to train, carry out fire safety work in the community or attend genuine emergencies. I applaud Hilton's approach to fire safety and look forward to further arrangements with other businesses in the capital."
The agreement is part of a wider project across the London Fire Brigade to reduce the number of false alarm calls firefighters attend in London. Since the project started in 2007 the number of false alarms that the Brigade has attended has dropped by 15 per cent. False alarms are the single most common reason for the Brigade's crews being called out and aside from preventing fire crews carrying out other work, unnecessary journeys also have a financial and environmental impact.
