Fire Marshal Training
Fire Marshal Training is now mandatory due to The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which requires that adequate fire safety training for all staff must be provided.
Generally a Responsible Person is nominated to manage fire safety within an organisation. This person is the nominated Fire Marshal. General training includes showing new staff the fire exits and giving basic training on what to do in the event of a fire but nominated Responsible Persons must be provided with the relevant training. The Fire Marshal must be provided with Fire Marshal Training to undertake their responsibilities and duties.
A fire marshal needs to be easily identifiable in an emergency, as they are responsible for ensuring a quick and efficient evacuation. Wearing a high visibility jerkin will ensure the responsible person is easily seen within crowds of people. Even if vision is reduced by the build up of smoke, the responsible person still needs to be identifiable. The high visibility jerkins are a standardised symbol for the authority figure. This means occupants will ultimately look to the authority figure as someone who’s instructions can be trusted. With accurate guidance given by the responsible person, a successful evacuation can be carried out.
Means of Escape supplies a range of Fire Safety and First Aider Jerkins, which ensure authority figures remain conspicuous during evacuation. These can be viewed on our website.
Means of Escape’s ‘Guide to the Nominated Person’ sets out a step by step guide for the nominated person in every business.
