TUESDAY 8 JULY Thornton Heath - warehouse fire Six fire engines and 30 firefighters are tackling a blaze at a two storey factory on Beulah Road, Thornton Heath.
Half of the ground floor is alight and cylinders are believed to be involved. A hazard zone has been set up and around tweleve people have been evacuated from nearby properties. Beulah Road is closed.
The Brigade was called at 1304.
Forest Gate - house fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a blaze at a house
on Chestnut Avenue
in Forest Gate. The fire is believed to have started in the living room and
damaged part of the ground floor property.
Watch Manager Lewis Orrow of Stratford Fire Station said; ?A smoke alarm
sounded and woke a woman up. There was heavy smoke logging throughout the
property and she did the right thing in closing her bedroom room door and
calling the Brigade. We rescued her via a ladder from the bedroom window and
this incident shows how important it is to have a working smoke alarm. The

MONDAY 7 JULY
Enfield - warehouse fire
A fire gutted a supermarket warehouse behind a parade of shops at Hertford Road, Enfield
but was stopped from spreading by firefighters.
Four fire engines and around twenty firefighters fought the blaze in the single
storey building, of approximately 10 metres by 20 metres. The Brigade was
called at 1946 and the fire was under control by 2123.
Firefighters from Edmonton and Enfield fire stations attended the incident.
"We could see the smoke from the fire getting progressively worse as we
were getting there," said Watch Manager David Mills of Enfield Fire
Station. "When we arrived we immediately positioned the appliances so we
could attack the fire from both ends."
"There are quite a few storage facilities close by, as well as residences
above the parade of shops so we assessed the risks and evacuated the immediate
area."
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the police.
SUNDAY 6 JULY
Wanstead - house fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a blaze at a flat
on Woodcote Road
in Wanstead this morning. Half of the property was damaged by the blaze and
there was heavy smoke logging throughout the building.
A man was rescued from the ground floor by fire crews wearing breathing
apparatus. He was treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 0912 and the fire was under control by 1008. Fire
crews from Leyton and Leytonstone fire stations attended the incident. The
cause of the fire is under investigation.
Hornchurch - house
blaze
Fire crews were called to a fire at a flat on Elmhurst Drive in Hornchurch last night.
The fire damaged a small amount of the bedroom and firefighters managed to stop
the fire from spreading to surrounding rooms.
A person was rescued via an internal staircase by fire crews wearing breathing
apparatus. They were suffering from smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital
by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 2230 and the fire was under control by 2254.
Firefighters from Dagenham and Hornchurch fire stations were at the scene. The
cause of the fire is under investigation.
FRIDAY 4 JULY
Tottenham - house fire
Fire crews were called to a fire in a house on Wellington Avenue in Tottenham this
afternoon. The fire damaged a small amount of the ground floor and there was
heavy smoke throughout the property.
An older man left the property before the Brigade arrived. He was suffering
from smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service
crews.
The Brigade was called at 1647 and the fire was under control by 1733.
Firefighters from Tottenham and Whitechapel fire stations were at the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
THURSDAY 3 JULY
Southall - fire at
industrial units
Six fire engines and around 30 firefighters were called to a blaze at a range
of industrial units on Bridge Road,
Southall. The fire severely damaged three industrial units.
The Brigade was called at 1354 and the fire was under control by 1613. Fire
crews from Southall and surrounding stations attended the incident. The cause
of the fire is under investigation.
Kentish Town - flat fire
A man suffered smoke inhalation after a chip pan fire at a flat in Athlone Street, Kentish Town, yesterday evening.
The man was rescued by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus from the front
of the five roomed flat. He was treated at the scene by London Ambulance
Service. Firefighters extinguished the fire using hose reels.
Around a fifth of the flat on the ground floor of the four storey building was
damaged by the fire. The Brigade was called at 2154 and the fire was under control
by 2223. Two fire engines from Kentish Town Fire Station and around ten
firefighters tackled the blaze.
Crew Manager Sean Madeley of Kentish Town Fire Station said: "There were
quite a few members of the public outside when we got there saying people were
inside the flat. The breathing apparatus crews were made ready and went in.
"They found the guy in the hallway and took him out. The rest of the flat
was then fully searched but luckily no one else was inside."
Balham - fire in flats
Three fire engines, a turntable ladder and around 15 firefighters tackled a
blaze at a shop with flats above on Balham High Road in the early hours of this
morning.
Fire crews rescued one man from the second floor at the rear of the building
using a ladder. Three other residents managed to leave the property before the
brigade arrived ? two were taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service
suffering from smoke inhalation. All the residents were alerted to the fire by
a smoke alarm.
The fire, which is believed to have started in the kitchen of a first floor
flat, damaged around half of the flat and caused heavy smoke damage to another
flat on the second floor.
The Brigade was called at 0352 and the fire was under control by 0509. Fire
crews from Tooting and Clapham fire stations attended the incident. The cause
of the fire is under investigation.
WEDNESDAY 2 JULY
Dagenham - flat fire
Eight fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire and
explosion at a residential block of flats on Gosfield Road in Dagenham this afternoon.
The explosion is believed to have been caused by gas. The whole of a five
roomed flat on the fifth floor was destroyed and there was severe damage to the
internal walls.
A man was rescued from the fifth floor by fire crews wearing breathing
apparatus. He was suffering from burns and was taken to hospital by Helicopter
Emergency Medical Service. A further three people were rescued from the fifth
floor by firefighters.
The Brigade was called at 1159 and the fire was under control by 1440.
Firefighters from Dagenham, Barking, Ilford, Romford and Leytonstone fire
stations were at the scene. The cause of the incident is under investigation.
Sudbury - shop fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a blaze at a shop
with flats above on Watford Road,
Sudbury in the early hours of
this morning. The fire completely destroyed the shop and there was heavy smoke
throughout the building.
Two men were rescued from the third floor via an internal staircase. A further
five men left the building before the Brigade arrived. Watch Manager Lee
Cousins said; ?The fire spread rapidly and crews worked extremely hard to stop
the fire from spreading to the flats above.?
The Brigade was called at 0023 and the fire was under control by 0136.
Firefighters from Wembley and Northolt fire stations attended the incident. The
cause of the fire is under investigation.
TUESDAY 1 JULY
Belgravia - patio area
fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a blaze at a house
on Eaton Square
in Belgravia last night. The fire damaged part
of the patio area and fire crews managed to stop the fire from spreading to the
house.
A barbeque was nearby with a gas cylinder. A hazard zone was set up because
some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat. Around 20 people were
evacuated from surrounding properties. Firefighter quickly cooled the cylinder
down and residents were allowed back into their homes.
The Brigade was called at 1831 and the fire was under control by 2006. Firefighters
from Knightsbridge, Westminster,
Clapham, Chelsea and Lambeth fire stations attended the incident. The cause of
the fire is under investigation.
Lambeth - flat fire
Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters were called to a fire at a nine
storey block of flats on Baylis Road SE1 in the early hours of this morning.
Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus led a man to safety from a seventh floor
flat and he was treated at the scene by the London Ambulance Service. The fire,
which is believed to have started in the lounge, damaged around 10 per cent of
the flat.
The Brigade was called at 0524 and the fire was under control by 0552.
Firefighters from Lambeth and Southwark fire stations attended the incident.

MONDAY 30 JUNE
Feltham - garage fire
Around 30 people were evacuated from their homes for around two hours yesterday
evening following a fire at a range of garages and an electrical sub-station on
Brainton Avenue
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters attended the incident which
destroyed the seven garages and sub-station.
The Brigade was called at 1846 and the fire was under control at 1929.Crews
from Feltham, Heston, Twickenham and Kingston Fire Stations attended the
incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
SUNDAY 29 JUNE
Hayes - Fire in
industrial estate
Twelve fire engines and over 60 firefighters have tackled a fire at an
industrial eatate in Silverdale
Road, Hayes, this evening. Around 40 per cent of a
range of industrial units have been damaged by the blaze.
The Brigade was called at 1723 and the fire was under control by 2150.
Tooting - five escape
blaze
Four men and a woman jumped to safety from a first floor window as fire spread
through a shop and dwellings in Alston Road, Tooting, early this morning. The
two-storey building was substantially damaged in the blaze, including most of
the first floor and the internal stairs. It is understood that the occupants
were alerted by a smoke alarm fitted free by London Fire Brigade staff under
its ?Be Safe and Sound? programme.
Four fire engines and over 20 firefighters tackled the fire. The Brigade was
called at 0506 and the blaze was under control by 0631. Crews from Tooting,
Mitcham and Wimbledon fire stations attended
the incident.

West
Wickham - house fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a blaze at a
terraced house on Langley Way,
West Wickham this morning.
The fire destroyed the roof and one person escaped from the building before the
arrival of the Brigade.
Crews from Bromley, Beckenham and Woolwich attended the incident. The Brigade
was called at 0503 and the fire was under control by 0546. The cause of the
blaze is under investigation.
Beckenham - flat fire
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a woman and a child from a
flat fire on Kent House Lane
in Beckenham yesterday evening.
The fire damaged around half of the flat?s lobby and the pair were rescued from
the second floor. Two adults and two children managed to escape the building
before fire crews arrived.
The Brigade was called at 1900 and the fire was under control by 1930. Four
fire engines and around 20 firefighters from Forest Hill, Downham, Beckenham
and Woolwich fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is

FRIDAY 27 JUNE
Edgware Road - flat
fire
Eight fire engines and 40 firefighters attended a fire in a block of flats of
eight floors at Edgware Road
this morning.
The Brigade was called at 0549 and crews using a turntable ladder rescued four
people from the 8th floor. No one else was involved. The entire 8th floor was
heavily smoke logged and the fire was under control at 0727. The cause is under
investigation.
Bethnal Green -
firefighters rescue man from fire
Firefighters rescued a man from a fire at a second floor flat on Ramsey Street,
E2 in the early hours of this morning.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus carried the man to safety and he was taken to
hospital by the London Ambulance Service suffering from smoke inhalation.
The fire started in the kitchen of the two floored maisonette after cooking was
left unattended. A neighbour living three floors above called 999 after seeing
smoke.

Whitechapel - fire at
block of flats
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a fire at an eight
storey block of flats at Lomas
Street, Whitechapel last night.
The fire broke out in the communal corridor of the first floor of the property
and fire crews worked hard to stop the fire from spreading to flats. The fire
caused heavy smoke damage to the first floor corridor.
The Brigade was called at 0145 and the fire was under control by 0211. Fire
crews from Whitechapel, Bethnal Green and Shoreditch attended the incident. The
cause of the blaze is under investigation.
Kentish Town - flat fire
Two fire engines and around 10 firefighters tackled a fire in a flat on Arctic Street, NW5,
last night.
The fire, believed to have been started by an unattended candle, damaged part
of the flat on the 1st floor of the building.
Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus rescued one woman from the flat, who was
treated by London Ambulance Service for smoke inhalation.
Kentish Town Fire Station Watch Manager, Steve Boulton, who attended the
incident said: ?Candles are a common cause of fires in the homes of Londoners.
If you are using candles make sure you never leave them unattended, place them
on a heat resistant surface and keep them away from flammable materials like
curtains or clothing.?

Selsdon - flat fire
Fire crews were called to a blaze at a flat with a shop below on Addington Road,
Selsdon in the early hours of this morning. The fire is believed to be
accidental and damaged a small amount of the first floor flat.
A man was rescued from the first floor via a ladder by firefighters wearing
breathing apparatus. He was suffering from smoking inhalation and was taken to
hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 0021 and the fire was under control by 0052. Fire
crews from Addington and Croydon fire stations attended the incident.
Peckham - flat blaze
Fire crews were called to a fire at a flat on East Dulwich Road, Peckham in the early
hours of this morning. The fire started in the lounge and is believed to have
been caused by the careless disposal of a cigarette. There was heavy smoke
logging throughout the building.
There was no working smoke alarm in the property and the Brigade was called by
a passerby. Crew manager Jon Page said: ?This highlights the importance of
having a working smoke alarm. Had the passerby not called us then this incident
could have been a lot worse.?

He was suffering from smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital by London

university building under refurbishment fire
Ten fire engines and around 50 firefighters were called to a blaze at
university building under refurbishment on Weyhill Road in Whitechapel this
afternoon.
The six storey building was severely damaged by fire and the whole of the
scaffolding from the ground to the roof level was destroyed by fire. A small
amount of an adjacent building has also been damaged by fire. A number of
people were evacuated the building before the Brigade arrived.
The Brigade was called at 1205 and the fire was under control by 1536. Fire
crews at the incident included Whitechapel, Bethnal Green and Old Kent Road fire
stations. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Maida Vale - fire at
flats
Twelve fire engines, a turntable ladder and around 60 firefighters were called
to a fire at a three storey house converted into four flats on Randolph Road,
Maida Vale yesterday evening.
The fire has damaged around 25% of the first floor, 70% of the second floor,
40% of the third floor and the whole of the roof.
The Brigade was called at 1758 and the incident was over by 0509 this morning.
Fire crews from Paddington, Knightsbridge and Belsize fire stations were among
the crews that attended. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
TUESDAY 24 JUNE
Wimbledon - flat blaze
Six fire engines, an aerial ladder platform and around 30 firefighters were
called to a fire at a three storey block of flats on Gap Road, Wimbledon
this morning.
The fire has damaged about half of two flats on the second floor and around
three quarters of the roof.
The Brigade was called at 0958 and the fire was under control by 1252. Fire
crews from Wimbledon, Tooting and Wandsworth
fire stations tackled the blaze. The cause is under investigation.
Thornton Heath - factory blaze
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a fire in a factory
unit on London Road, Thornton Heath in the early hours of this

Six fire engines and around 30 people were called to a blaze at a house on Rampart Street in
Stepney last night. The fire damaged the ground and

Two men and a woman were assisted to safety from the first floor flat roof by a
ladder.

crews from Dowgate, Poplar, Shoreditch and Leyton fire stations were at the

FRIDAY 20 JUNE
Bethnal Green - fire
in block of flats
Eight fire engines and around 40 firefighters battled a blaze at a 20 storey block
of flats on Mansford Street,
Bethnal Green in the early hours of this morning.
The fire started on a balcony and is believed to have been caused by the
careless disposal of cigarettes. Around half of a four roomed flat on the 13th
floor was damaged by fire.
A man, a woman and a child left the flat before the arrival of the Brigade and
were treated for smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service. Approximately
150 people were led to safety from the building by fire crews during the
incident.
The Brigade was called to the blaze at 2321 (Thursday)and the fire was under
control by 0122. Firefighters from Bethnal Green, Whitechapel, Shoreditch, Bow
and Kingsland fire stations were at the scene.
Stoke Newington - disused building fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a blaze at a
disused building on Fairholt Road
in Stoke Newington last night. The single storey building was severely damaged
by the blaze and half of the roof was also destroyed.
Around 40 people were evacuated from a nearby garden area.
The Brigade was called at 2324 and the fire was under control by 0040. Fire
crews from Stoke Newington and Holloway fire stations were at the scene. The
cause of the fire is under investigation.
Burnt Oak - flat blaze
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a fire at a flat on
Roscoff Close, Burnt Oak in the early hours of this morning. The flat started
in the bedroom and is believed to have been caused by careless disposal of
smoking materials. The fire severely damaged the first floor and part of the
loft space was also damaged by fire.
Two men and a woman left the building before the Brigade arrived. A further
woman from an adjacent flat also escaped before the arrival of fire crews.
The Brigade was called at 0240 and the fire was under control by 0338.
Firefighters from Stanmore, Mill Hill, Hendon and Harrow
fire stations attended the incident.
WEDNESDAY 18 JUNE
Stratford - disused house fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a blaze at a
disused house on Strone Road
in Stratford
this morning. The whole of the two storey building was gutted by fire and part
of a neighbouring properties roof was also damaged by the blaze.
The Brigade was called at 0633 and the fire was under control by 0840. Fire
crews from Stratford,
Leytonstone and East Ham fire stations were at the scene. The cause of the fire
is under investigation.
Holloway - flat fire
Two fire engines and around 10 firefighters were called to a fire in a flat on Camden Road in
Holloway last night. Part of the ground floor flat was damaged by fire.
Three women were led to safety by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.
They were all suffering from slight smoke inhalation and treated at the scene.

Upper Sydenham -
cylinders incident
Fire crews were called to a blaze at an outside storage facility of an older
people?s home on Sydenham Hill, Upper Sydenham
in the early hours of this morning. The storage facility was completely
destroyed by fire and there were two calor gas cylinders involved in the
incident.
A 200 metre hazard zone was set up as some cylinders can explode when exposed
to heat. Around 100 residents from the home were led to a safe part of the
building and approximately 20 residents from adjacent properties were evacuated
by the police.
The Brigade was called at 0402 and the fire was under control and residents
allowed back into their homes by 0558. Firefighters from Forest Hill fire
station were at the scene.
Edgware - car repair
workshop blaze
Six fire engines and around 30 firefighters were called to a fire at a car
repair workshop on Ballards Mews High Street in Edgware last night. Part of the
single storey building was damaged by fire.
The Brigade was called at 1716 and the fire was under control by 1810. Fire
crews from Barnet, Mill Hill, Hendon, Harrow,
Stanmore and Wembley fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire
is under investigation.
TUESDAY 17 JUNE
Croydon - cylinder
incident
Four fire engines and around twenty firefighters are currently attending a
factory and office building on Beddington
Farm Road in Croydon, to deal with a cylinder
alight.
The cylinder contained acetylene and a 200 metre hazard zone was put in place,
as acetylene cylinders can explode when exposed to heat. The hazard zone has
been reduced to in and around the building.
Twenty people have been evacuated from the building and a further 100 people
were evacuated from the surrounding area.
The Brigade was called at 0651 and the fire was under control by 1059. Fire
crews remained at the scene cooling the cylinder down till 9am Wednesday
morning.
Southall - house blaze
Fire crews were called to a fire at a house on Dane Road in Southall this afternoon. The
fire damaged part of the two storey property and there was heavy smoke
throughout the building.
A woman and two children left the house before the Brigade arrived. They were
all suffering from smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital by London
Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 1231 and the fire was under control by 1301.
Firefighters from Southall fire station were at the scene. The cause of the
fire is under investigation.
Hammersmith - flat
fire
Two fire engines and around ten firefighters tackled a fire in a flat on Warbeck Road last
night.
The fire, believed to have been caused by an unattended tea light, damaged part
of the flat.
Watch Manager Michael Herschell from Hammersmith Fire Station, attended the
incident and said: ?Luckily the man living in the property had a working smoke
alarm which alerted him to the fire and allowed him to escape."

Romford.
Neighbours were alerted by the smoke alarm in the first floor flat and called
the Brigade. Crews rescued one elderly man from the living room of the
property. He was suffering from smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital by
London Ambulance Service.
Ten firefighters and two fire engines from Romford Fire Station attended the
fire, which was under control by 2353. Around a quarter of the first floor flat
was damaged by fire.

Finsbury Square EC2 -

Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a fire at an office
block under refurbishment on Finsbury
Square in EC2. Half of a room at roof level was
damaged by fire.

of the single storey buildings were damaged by the blaze.
An acetylene cylinder and an oxygen cylinder were involved in the incident. A
hazard zone was put in place as some cylinders can explode when exposed to
heat. The hazard zone has been reduced to 50 metres and firefighters remain at
the scene cooling the cylinders down.
The Brigade was called at 1758 and the fire was under control by 2354. Fire
crews from Tooting and West Norwood fire
stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
SUNDAY 15 JUNE
Teddington - flat fire
Fire crews were called to a blaze at a flat on Vicarage Road in Teddington last night.
The fire damaged part of the second floor flat and the there was heavy smoke
throughout the building.
A man left the property before the Brigade arrived. He was suffering from smoke
inhalation and was treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 1913 and the fire was under control by 1957.
Firefighters from Kingston
and Twickenham fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is
under investigation.
SATURDAY 14 JUNE
Thornton Heath - house blaze
Fire crews were called to fire at a house on Buxton Road in Thornton Heath last night.
Part of the kitchen was damaged by fire and there was heavy smoke throughout
the building.
A man was led to safety via an internal staircase by firefighters wearing
breathing apparatus. He was suffering from smoke inhalation and was taken to
hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 2123 and the fire was under control by 2145. Fire
crews from Norbury fire station were at the scene. The cause of the fire is
under investigation.
FRIDAY 13 JUNE
South Norwood -
cylinder incident
Six fire engines and around 30 firefighters tackled a fire at industrial yards
on Tennison Road
in South Norwood.
Approximately 300 tonnes of rubble, tyres and rubbish were damaged by the blaze.
A quarter of an adjoining scaffolders yard, of approximately 20 metres by 20
metres, was also damaged.
Several propane gas cylinders were involved in the fire and had to be cooled
and removed, because they can explode when exposed to heat. A 200 metre hazard
zone around the incident was initially set up as a precaution but this was
later reduced to the immediate area surrounding the fire.
Approximately 150 residents and 400 children from a nearby school were
evacuated at the height of the incident.
The Brigade was called at 0822 and the fire was under control by 1404.
Clerkenwell - building
under construction fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a fire at building
under construction on Saffron Hill in Clerkenwell last night. The fire caused a
small amount of damage to the sixth and seventh floors.
Approximately 50 people were evacuated from a pub below the construction.
The Brigade was called at 1830 and the fire was under control by 2107. Fire
crews from Clerkenwell, Shoreditch and Dowgate attended the incident. The cause
of the fire is under investigation.
WEDNESDAY 11 JUNE
Victoria - office fire
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a fire in an office
block on Vincent Square
in Victoria.
A small part of the basement was damaged by fire.
Approximately 150 people left the building before the Brigade arrived.
The Brigade was called at 0857 and the fire was under control by 1205.
Firefighters from Westminster,
Knightsbridge and Lambeth fire stations were at the scene. The cause of the
fire is under investigation.
Hammersmith - flat
blaze
Fire crews were called to a fire at a flat on Goldhawk Road, Hammersmith last night.
The fire damaged part of the first floor flat.
Six people left the building before the Brigade arrived. One person was treated
at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 0304 and the fire was under control by 0357.
Firefighters from Hammersmith and Chiswick fire stations attended the incident.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
